Dynamo Drop Lead and Settle with Tie in the 90th Minute
The Houston Dynamo had three points in their hands. A 2-0 lead at home looked like it would be enough to secure a big win against FC Cincinnati as the top of the Western Conference keeps heating up. Instead, the Dynamo fell asleep late and watched the victory disappear.
Houston opened the scoring in the 38th minute when Guilherme stepped up for a free kick just outside the box. His strike found the back of the net, giving the Dynamo a 1-0 lead. The Brazilian forward also broke the single-season club record for most goal contributions at 22 so far in 2027.
The Dynamo came out firing after halftime and doubled their advantage in the 51st minute. Mateusz Bogusz calmly converted from the penalty spot to make it 2-0.
At that moment, Houston looked firmly in control. But Cincinnati wasn’t finished.
In the 73rd minute, Bryan Ramírez pulled one back for Cincinnati, cutting the Dynamo’s lead to 2-1. Suddenly, the final minutes became tense as Houston tried to protect its advantage.
The Dynamo had chances to close the game out, but Cincinnati kept pushing. Then came the nightmare.
Deep into stoppage time, in the 90+7th minute, Cincinnati was awarded a penalty. Kévin Denkey stepped up and buried it, leveling the match at 2-2.
The Dynamo went from celebrating a potential 2-0 victory to watching two points slip away in the final moments. Houston had the game under control. Cincinnati came back. And in the end, the Dynamo were left asking themselves how a 2-0 lead turned into a 2-2 draw.
