Dynamo and Quakes Battle to 0-0 Draw

HOUSTON, Texas — The Houston Dynamo and San Jose Earthquakes played to a scoreless 0-0 draw Saturday night at Shell Energy Stadium, with both teams walking away with a point in a physical Western Conference matchup.
Despite chances on both ends, neither team could find the breakthrough. Houston goalkeeper Jonathan Bond once again proved to be a key piece for the Dynamo, making four saves and recording his sixth clean sheet in his last seven starts.
San Jose created the first major opportunities of the night, but Houston’s defense remained organized and prevented the Earthquakes from finding the back of the net.
Houston also had its opportunities, particularly late in the first half and throughout the second half, but the Dynamo couldn’t turn their chances into goals.
The second half followed much of the same script: physical battles, defensive pressure and opportunities, but no breakthrough from either side.
Houston finished the night with nine shots and seven corner kicks, but the Dynamo were unable to register a shot on target. San Jose goalkeeper Angus Gunn also finished the match without needing to make a save.
The result gives Houston another clean sheet and keeps the Dynamo near the top of the Western Conference standings. After falling 2-1 on the road against St. Louis City in their previous match, Houston responded with another solid defensive performance.
However, the biggest question for the Dynamo remains their attack. Keeping clean sheets is important, but Houston will need to start turning those defensive performances into goals and three points as the playoff race continues to heat up.
The 0-0 draw means both teams leave Houston with a point, but the Dynamo will likely feel they missed an opportunity to earn all three points at home before this weekend's trip to Charlotte.
