Lucky Number 5 — Dynamo Make It Five Straight Wins in Vancouver

Lucky number five continues for the Houston Dynamo.

Houston defeated the Vancouver Whitecaps 1-0 at BC Place, earning their fifth straight win and fifth consecutive clean sheet in a match where Franco Negri’s golazo in the 34th minute proved to be the difference.

The Dynamo found their breakthrough in the 34th minute when Franco Negri delivered a golazo to put Houston ahead 1-0. It was a moment of brilliance that gave the Dynamo the advantage, but Vancouver still had plenty of time to respond.

The second half became a completely different story.

Houston defended for the entire second half. The team had to make adjustments throughout, including the debut of Marcelo Saracchi at the 75th minute to make important clearances in the back.

Vancouver pushed forward, controlled possession and continued looking for the equalizer, but the Dynamo defense refused to give in. Houston stayed compact, fought for every ball and put everything on the line to protect the lead.

Then came the biggest scare of the night.

Vancouver found the back of the net in the second half and appeared to have tied the match. The Whitecaps celebrated, but the referee went to VAR to review the play.

After checking the action, the referee determined there was a foul before the goal.

The goal was called off. Houston still led 1-0.

That gave the Dynamo another chance to hold onto their advantage, and they continued defending until the final whistle.

The final minutes were all about survival. Vancouver kept attacking, but Houston’s defense continued to clear the danger and protect the lead.

When the referee finally blew the whistle, Houston had secured another three points to climb to the top spot of the Western Conference and extending their unbeaten streak to seven games in league play and tying the MLS record for most consecutive clean sheets in

league history.
