The Houston Dash earned a hard-fought point on the road Sunday night, rallying to secure a 2-2 draw against Denver Summit FC in an entertaining NWSL matchup.
Houston wasted little time responding after Denver opened the scoring. Yazmeen Ryan gave the home side a 1-0 lead in the 14th minute, but just one minute later, Kat Rader answered for the Dash with her fifth goal of the season, a well-taken finish to level the match at 1-1.
Denver regained the advantage just before halftime when Janine Sonis converted a penalty in first-half stoppage time (45+3’), sending the hosts into the break with a 2-1 lead.
The Dash came out with renewed energy in the second half and found their equalizer in the 48th minute through Linda Ullmark's first-ever NWSL goal, finding Maggie Graham's cross inside the box to make it 2-2.
Both teams pushed for a winner throughout the remainder of the match, creating opportunities at both ends, but neither side could find the decisive goal. The final whistle confirmed the draw, giving Houston a valuable point away from home and first result since the international break.
The result moves the Dash to 12th place in the NWSL standings as they continue their push to climb the table during the second half of the season.
Despite trailing twice, Houston showed resilience by responding immediately after Denver’s opening goal and again after halftime. The ability to fight back and earn a point on the road will provide positives as the Dash prepare for their next league fixture this Saturday, July 18, at Racing Louisville.
