Dynamo and FC Dallas Play to a 2-2 Draw in Texas Derby

The Houston Dynamo and FC Dallas battled to a 2-2 draw in an intense Texas Derby, with late drama, penalty kicks, and a crucial save from goalkeeper Jonathan Bond highlighting a thrilling matchup between two of the Top 5 teams in the Western Conference.
FC Dallas opened the scoring in the 12th minute through Christian Cappis, giving the visitors an early advantage. Houston responded after halftime, with Héctor Herrera finding the equalizer in the 49th minute off a corner kick from Guilherme.
The Dynamo continued to fight for the winning goal, and the match delivered more drama in stoppage time. In the 90+4th minute, Mateusz Bogusz converted a penalty kick to put Houston ahead 2-1.
However, FC Dallas refused to give up. Petar Musa converted a penalty in the 90+11th minute to bring the visitors level at 2-2, which was conceded by Houston after a questionable call by the referee inside the box off Duncan McGuire's challenge.
One of the biggest moments came when Houston goalkeeper Jonathan Bond stepped up to save a penalty in the first half of the game, keeping the Dynamo alive in a crucial moment of the derby. Simultaneously, while Houston needed a win to clinch a spot in the 2026 MLS Cup Playoffs, they were able to clinch either way after Portland Timbers and San Diego FC drew their matches later that evening.
Despite the late drama and a hard-fought battle between the eternal Texas rivals, this match served as a moment to immortalize Brian Ching as the first inductee into the Houston Dynamo Ring of Honor. His name will be permanently displayed inside the stadium as the first of many players that helped contribute to the club's history.
