Dash Close Out 2026 Season With 2-0 Loss to Portland Thorns

The Houston Dash finished their 2026 regular season with a 2-0 loss against the Portland Thorns on Sunday afternoon at Shell Energy Stadium.
Houston entered the final match of the season looking to give its home fans something to celebrate, but Portland came away with the victory behind two goals from Sophia Wilson.
The Dash had some opportunities early in the first half. Goalkeeper Jane Campbell came up with important saves, including stops in the 11th minute to keep Portland from taking an early lead.
Houston also created chances of its own. In the 28th minute, midfielder Danielle Jessica Colaprico delivered a cross into a crowded box, but Portland goalkeeper Mackenzie Arnold made the save.
Portland finally broke through in the 34th minute. Sophia Wilson found the back of the net to give the visitors a 1-0 advantage.
The Dash went into halftime trailing but continued looking for an equalizer after the break.
In the 61st minute, Portland had another dangerous opportunity when the referee awarded a penalty kick. Campbell made the initial save, but after a review, the penalty was ordered to be retaken because of encroachment.
Wilson stepped up again and converted the second attempt in the 70th minute, extending Portland’s lead to 2-0.
One of the special moments of the afternoon was Danielle Colaprico reaching her 150th appearance for the Houston Dash, marking an important milestone with the club.
Despite the effort from Houston, the Dash could not find a goal before the final whistle.
Houston finished the season with 33 points, missing the NWSL playoffs for the fourth consecutive season.
As the 2026 season comes to an end, attention now turns to the future of the Houston Dash. Angela Hucles Mangano, the club’s President of Women’s Soccer, is now on the clock to find the team’s next head coach and build a coaching staff for the 2027 season.
After another season without a playoff appearance and the departure of Fabrice Gautrat, the Dash have important decisions ahead. Finding the right coaching staff will be one of the biggest priorities as Houston looks to turn things around and compete for a playoff spot next season.
