Houston Dynamo finally announced the signing of 24-year-old Cruz Azul midfielder Mateusz Bogusz, adding a third DP and an exciting piece to the attack that will significantly improve their offensive approach before the start of the 2026 season. The Polish international is signed to a three-and-a-half year deal, with a one-year club option to keep him through the 2029-30 season. Both clubs did not disclose the transfer fee, but the Dynamo claim that: "The deal marks one of the largest transfer fees in Club history for the Dynamo."
The Athletic's Tom Bogert reports that the Dynamo and Cruz Azul agreed to a $6 million transfer fee, including $4 million in performance incentives and a 30% sell-on clause, which could break the club's transfer fee record set after the signing of Ezequiel Ponce in 2024 (region of $8 million).

I assume that Bogusz will be slotted as an attacking midfielder to push the attack, working as a Bassi-like piece that can actually break through defenses and put the ball in the back of the net. He can also play on the left wing if needed, so shifting to the side to provide support over the course of the season is in the cards.
After the Dynamo added a wave of experience recently, including the signing of veteran winger Guilherme, this significantly reduces the workload being placed on Lawrence Ennali to provide most runs in the final third and provides options to adjust the wings down the road. Having this type of depth provides head coach Ben Olsen with more options and can help Houston open up games to their favor up front.
Houston struggled to convert many scoring opportunities into goals in 2025. They had the lowest accurate shooting percentage in MLS (30.8%) and simply felt like results were slipping out of their hands with the lack of scoring output. With more ways to provide service for Ezequiel Ponce and depth with the addition of Nick Markanich, it is almost guaranteed that the Dynamo will score more goals in 2026.
